Webinar: Are Housing Vouchers Contributing to Racial and Economic Segregation for Families with Children?

The Housing Choice Voucher Program helps families access affordable and stable housing, avoid homelessness, and make ends meet. When implemented properly, vouchers can give low-income families equitable choices about where to live, including the chance to live in lower-poverty, higher-opportunity neighborhoods and help public housing agencies meet their legal obligation to address housing discrimination and segregation. But is that what is actually happening?

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities recently conducted an analysis on the location of families with children using housing vouchers. This is the first metropolitan-level analysis, to CBPP’s knowledge, to explore the concentration of families using vouchers across multiple neighborhood characteristics, including poverty rate, an opportunity index, and the share of residents who are people of color.
