Arts Writers Grant Program, Creative Capital

  • May 20, 2019

Funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by Creative Capital, the Arts Writers Grant Program was launched in 2006 to support emerging and established writers who engage with issues of contemporary visual art.

Through the program, published authors who identify as art historians, artists, critics, curators, or journalists, or who are writers in an outside field and are strongly engaged with the contemporary visual arts, can apply for grants ranging between $15,000 and $50,000. Grants will be awarded in four categories: articles, blogs, books, and short-form writing.

As defined by the program, "contemporary visual art" includes visual art made since World War II. Projects focused on post-WWII work in related fields — architecture, dance, film, media, music, performance, sound, etc. — will only be considered if the project directly and significantly engages the discourses and concerns of contemporary visual art. Projects with a pre-WWII component will only be considered if the main focus is contemporary.

To be eligible, applicants must be at least 25 years old and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, or an individual with an O-I visa.

See the Arts Writers Grants website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
