Goergeny High Impact-High Priority Research Grant, Foundation for Physical Therapy Research

  • May 31, 2019

The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research is dedicated to improving the quality and delivery of patient care by providing support to emerging investigators working to promote scientifically based and clinically relevant research related to the effectiveness of physical therapist practice.

To that end, the foundation is accepting applications for its Goergeny High Impact/High Priority Research Grant. Through the program, a grant of up to $360,000 over three years ($240,000 over two years, with the possibility of a competitive third-year renewal) will be awarded to a physical therapist investigator focused on the role of physical therapy in the prevention of secondary health conditions, impairments of body structures and functions, activity limitations, and/or participation restrictions.

Example of projects eligible for grant support include the mitigation of secondary complications due to a sedentary lifestyle following stroke, with the primary outcome being an increase in the number of steps taken per day or improvement in resting heart rate; or the mitigation of stroke or heart attack in obese populations, with the outcome measure being weight loss or some measure of physical activity.

LOIs are due May 31, 2019. Upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application.

Eligible applicants must be conducting research in a U.S. institution.
