The Director of Finance & Administration serves as the primary financial director, responsible for the management and investment of fiscal resources and all accounting practices for Mt. Cuba Center (MCC). This position also oversees the human resources, information technology, and facilities management functions and ensures their alignment and integration with the institution’s strategic direction.

The Director of Finance & Administration serves as a seasoned and trusted adviser to the Executive Director and the Board of Managers on all fiscal and operational matters within scope of responsibilities, performs in-depth financial analyses, evaluates revenue and expenditure data, identifies opportunities and threats, develops scenario plans, and develops the operating budget for MCC. This position serves as Assistant Treasurer to the Board of Managers and acts as a staff liaison to the Board Investment and Audit Committee.

The Director oversees all insurance, risk management, and legal issues as well as ensures the non-profit status of the organization remains in compliance with all regulations. This position oversees and manages all capital projects for Mt. Cuba Center, including coordinating with outside vendors, owners representative firms, and all other stakeholders involved in capital projects.

The Director exercises flexibility and adaptability to MCC priorities and ensures that finance and administration department performance objectives are aligned with strategic goals, develops and monitors indicators of success, serves as subject matter expert on organization-wide initiatives, and provides valuable coaching and mentoring that elevates people and performance. The Director of Finance & Administration brings a valued fiscal perspective to crucial conversations and influences decisions in the best interest of the organization. This role is a key member of the senior leadership team at MCC and supervises managerial and support staff.

Essential Duties:

Finance, Accounting, & Investment Management

Collaborate with investment consultants and Board of Managers to monitor and advise on all institutional investments, asset allocations, grant distributions, contributions programs, and process investment contracts; Serve as Assistant Treasurer to the Board of Managers and Staff Liaison to the Board Investment & Audit Committee

Prepare and oversee the organization’s annual budget; monitor budgetary control and cash flow throughout the organization; Perform accounting functions, inclusive of payroll processing; Process account reconciliation and deposits, oversee the accounts payable/accounts receivable functions; works with auditor to oversee preparation and processing of tax returns and excise tax payments; and executes internal auditing procedures, while maintaining compliance with GAAP principles

Capital Projects Management

Oversee and manage capital projects for the organization

Organizational Risk & Operations Management

Work with legal counsel on behalf of the organization to obtain advice on civil/criminal matters, contract/policy drafting, and other operational matters requiring counsel; Monitor liability throughout the organization and maintain all necessary contracts, inclusive of commercial liability; Maintain Mt. Cuba Center’s non-profit status by ensuring tax code and spending requirement compliance; Work with leadership team to advise on efficient and successful financial and general business administration throughout the organization; recommend best practices; Work with service vendors to oversee various organizational insurance programs including general liability, government-required, and employee benefit insurance policies

Oversight of Human Resources, Facilities, and Technology Services Functions

Oversee and monitor the human resources function; inclusive of benefits purchasing, compensation design, human capital projects, and organizational policy and procedure development; Ensure legal compliance in HR programs; Oversee and monitor the performance of preventive maintenance, inspections and records management on the condition of Mt. Cuba Center facilities (including tenant housing), subsystems, and infrastructure to maintain compliance with governed requirements and ensure safe, continuous operations; Oversee maintenance programs specific to water supply systems and vehicle fleet; Ensure legal compliance specific to OSHA and safety requirements for facilities; Oversee the security and integrity of all information technology systems and ensure the efficient delivery of technology support services and system maintenance. Ensure legal compliance in IT programs and policy development

Strategic Partnership

Assist the Executive Director in maintaining MCC’s relationships with multiple external parties by interpreting and explaining MCC and its programs. Represent MCC in professional organizations and at professional and community meetings and events as requested. Serve as a strategic business partner by collaborating with the Board of Managers and serve on Board Committees to carry out the organization’s founding intention.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in a finance,business, or business-related field

· 10 years’ experience in a financial capacity

· Proficient knowledge in finance and accounting and GAAP principles

· Knowledge of non-profit and/or foundation financial principles and endowment management

· Comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and analysis

· Proficiency in using QuickBooks or other similar accounting software

· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

· Demonstrated experience in delivering executive-level presentations

· Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking abilities

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and adapt to various software and technology programs to complete work duties

· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships and persuasively communicate with Mt. Cuba Center staff and the public
