The Comer Family Foundation

  • May 01, 2020

The Comer Family Foundation is dedicated to seeding ideas and supporting innovative programs that make a lasting and positive impact on the lives of individuals and their communities.

Support is provided through the Foundation's Syringe Access Program, which seeks to improve the health and wellness of people affected by drug use. These programs provide free sterile syringes, education, and often community wraparound services to reduce transmission of HIV, hepatitis C, and opioid overdose.

Funding priorities include:

  • organizations providing access to sterile syringes through syringe access programs, in addition to other direct services addressing health issues related to drug use; and,
  • organizations grounded in harm reduction principle and practice.

The Foundation also prioritizes support for programs in geographic areas in which access to sterile syringes can be dramatically improved. In the review process, HIV/AIDS and HCV prevalence, injection drug use prevalence, overdose incidence, and areas in which policy improvements can have local, state, or national impact are also considered.

Strategic partnerships are encouraged.

Types of available funding include:

  • operating funds;
  • program development, education, and mobilization; and,
  • staff development.
