The Mapplethorpe Foundation supports two major, unrelated areas: medical research to advance the cure and treatment of AIDS and HIV infection, and photography as an art form through assisting museums, universities, and other institutions and by publishing quality books and materials.
Photography The Foundation supports museums and other public institutions by assisting in the creation or expansion of photography departments, including the acquisition of photographs, as well as study and exhibition facilities related to photography. Support is also available for exhibitions. In appropriate circumstance, the Foundation will also assist independent curators in developing photography exhibitions.
The Foundation does not provide scholarships or grants to individual photographers.
HIV/AIDS Research The Foundation provides funding for scientific research for studies being conducted for the treatment or cure of AIDS and HIV-related infections. The Foundation does not provide money for social services or healthcare facilities, or for projects that are not specifically linked to specific research agenda.
Types of support include general operating and project support.
