The New-Land Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations for programs in the areas of civil rights and justice, the environment, population control, peace and arms control, and leadership development.
The Foundation's specific interests include the following:
Civil Rights and Justice
The Foundation supports precedent-setting litigation or other efforts to defend civil rights and liberties, including first amendment rights and reproductive choice rights.
Environment
The Foundation supports efforts working to protect rivers, wildlands, and wildlife in Alaska, the Colorado Plateau, and the Rocky Mountains from Idaho and Montana south to New Mexico. Priority is given to smaller environmental organizations working on public lands policy.
Population Control
The Foundation supports programs that address the problems caused by global population growth, including its impact on the environment. The Foundation is also interested in programs that show a high potential to reduce birth rates in nations with fast-growing populations.
Peace and Arms Control
The Foundation supports efforts to reduce the threat of weapons of mass destruction, and to wind down especially dangerous regional conflicts.
Types of support include project support and seed money.
The Foundation does not typically fund educational institutions or programs in the following areas: medicine, religion, or general social programs, including homelessness, poverty, domestic violence, drug addiction, and crime rehabilitation.
Support is generally not provided to/for:
- capital campaigns;
- publications or films;
- endowment campaigns;
- building campaigns; or,
- conferences.
Note: Because the Foundation often makes repeat grants to organizations, it has a very limited budget for new applicants.
