The Oberkotter Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in the United States that promote listening and spoken language (LSL) for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
The Foundation primarily provides Program Support Grants to empower families throughout their journey to achieve listening and spoken language (LSL) outcomes for their children who are deaf or hard of hearing through awareness, education, connections, collaboration, and access to resources.
For the Fall 2019 Program Support Grant cycle, the Foundation will support projects that will work towards achieving the Foundation's goals to:
- empower and support families of children birth to three who are deaf or hard of hearing to move quickly and confidently through their journey with their children from newborn screening into early intervention services; and,
- support families’ access to LSL early intervention resources and services – particularly projects that will expand availability of LSL services or target underserved areas.
Grants are not provided to/for:
- projects that do not have a charitable or educational purpose;
- individuals;
- political lobbying or legislative activities;
- non-U.S. organizations or entities;
- capital campaigns, endowments, or debt reduction;
- bricks and mortar construction projects;
- indirect costs or overhead expenses;
- institutions that discriminate, in policy or in practice, on the basis of age, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, race, religion, marital status, disability, veteran, or other legally protected status;
- startup programs;
- professional or other training programs, including the creation of training modules and materials;
- the creation of pamphlets, brochures, or digital media intended to raise awareness of LSL or of particular programs and services;
- purchase of equipment including computers, tablets, hearing screening technology, hearing aid loaner banks, etc.; or,
- fundraising events or sponsorships.
