Resist

Resist is a progressive foundation that supports grassroots organizing for peace and economic, social, and environmental justice, and provides political education for social change activism.

Resist funds organizations that:

  • work within an ecology of social justice organizations, are aware of how their work fits into a greater whole, and their work reflects a clear understanding of purpose and function within movements for social change;
  • have an intersectional/cross-issue analysis;
  • work actively against white and Christian supremacy, capitalism, gender and sexual oppression, and all forms of patriarchy; and,
  • are led by those most affected by structural oppression.

Previously supported issues include:

  • creative resistance;
  • economic justice;
  • education;
  • the environment;
  • food justice;
  • global justice;
  • health;
  • housing;
  • immigrant rights;
  • indigenous rights;
  • labor issues;
  • gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer issues;
  • media justice;
  • peace;
  • police accountability;
  • prisoner rights;
  • racial justice;
  • reproductive justice;
  • transportation;
  • veterans;
  • women's rights; and,
  • youth issues.

The following types of grants are offered:

  • General Support Grants
    These grants of up to $4,000 support social justice organizing.
     
  • Rapid Response Grants
    These grants of up to $1,000 help groups respond quickly to unexpected needs. These grants are generally given to provide support for groups seeking to respond to unforeseen and timely political opportunities with organizing or cultural interventions or groups seeking financial support with training, consultation, healing, cultural work, conflict resolution, or restructuring.
     
  • Accessibility Grants
    These grants of up to $4,000 support projects that enable all people to participate in the movement for social justice by funding the additional costs of projects or events which will make them accessible to people with disabilities.
     
  • Multi-Year Grants
    Grantees who have been funded by Resist at least two times during the preceding five years may apply for a multi-year grant.

Prospective organizations must have an organizational budget under $150,000 per year.
