Special People in Need

  • December 31, 2020

Special People in Need (SPIN) is a small foundation based in Chicago that makes grants to nonprofit organizations. SPIN's primary focus is to assist economically needy disabled individuals seeking to improve themselves.

Grants are awarded to qualified nonprofit organizations operating in the fields of:

  • education;
  • health; and,
  • assistance to persons with disabilities.

A strong need for the program must be documented and the organization must show that it has the ability to meet the need effectively, that the organization is operated in a cost-effective manner, and that the organization makes effective use of volunteers in appropriate circumstances (if relevant). The project or program should enable people to help themselves or utilize innovative approaches with respect to addressing problem areas.

Note: SPIN also makes a limited number of grants to educational institutions or other appropriate fiscal agents for the benefit of economically needy disabled individuals. These grants are in the range of $1,500 to $3,000 and can be renewed as appropriate. Contact SPIN for more information.
