Global Consortium for Female Reproductive Longevity and Equality Invites Research Proposals

  • December 15, 2019

With the establishment of the Center for Female Reproductive Longevity and Equality (CFRLE), the Buck Institute for Research on Aging has pioneered the first facility that focuses solely on female aging as it relates to equality.

In collaboration with the Bia-Echo Foundation, the Global Consortium for Female Reproductive Longevity and Equality (GCRLE) is soliciting applications from investigators worldwide for two-year projects focused broadly on understanding female reproductive aging. The goal of the initiative is to foster bold, innovative scientists with the potential to transform the field.

Awards are open to researchers at both national and international accredited academic and nonprofit research institutions. Funding mechanisms include:

Senior Faculty Awards ($400,000 per year) — Support for established investigators who are thought leaders in their fields and are recognized for substantial contributions of creative and productive research. Awards are intended to complement other major funders of research by putting emphasis on projects that may not be supported by traditional sources because of their novelty or high risk, or because the investigator is moving into female reproductive aging from a different research area.

Junior Faculty Awards ($250,000 per year) — Support for newly independent investigators with outstanding promise who are establishing their own labs and are malleable in the direction of their research. The awards are intended to enable bright young scientists to pursue bold ideas when they are at their most scientifically creative.

Pilot Awards ($100,000 per year) — Support for innovative collaborative or novel research projects that have the potential for high impact and high reward at an accelerated rate.

Postdoctoral Fellowships ($100,000 per year) — Support to increase the number of imaginative, well-trained junior scientists who can form the next generation of reproductive aging researchers. The awards are designed to facilitate the institute’s efforts to build the field and provide both training and networking opportunities for trainees.

Applications are due by December 15. Applicants will be notified about funding decisions in February 2020. Applications form investigators in the basic biological sciences relevant to understanding mechanisms of female reproductive aging are encouraged.
