Manager of Outreach and Communications, Reading Assist Institute

  • December 06, 2019

Who we are:

Reading Assist Institute provides intensive literacy support services for young, at-risk, children with the most significant reading challenges so that they achieve reading progress and proficiency.

For some students with significant reading challenges, such as dyslexia, traditional classroom reading instruction and methodologies aren’t sufficient.  Additional challenges, such as being an English Language Learner or coming from a high-poverty environment can make it even more difficult for students to reach reading proficiency. Students with a language-based learning disability are more than twice as likely to drop out of high school; and students from impoverished backgrounds are more than five times as likely to drop out of high school.

RAI works in partnership with schools to identify and serve children in grades 1-3 who are in the lowest 10% in terms of reading proficiency.

We recruit, train and embed AmeriCorps members/RAI Fellows willing to commit a school-year of service to provide our accredited 1:1 intervention to students from low-income backgrounds, English language learners, and students with dyslexia.

What we need:

We are looking for someone who can tell our story over multiple platforms to grow our team, partnerships, and presence.

We know that spending a year of services changes the lives of students in need as well as our AmeriCorps members. We are looking for someone who can help us spread the word about this important and impactful program.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead our website revision, aligning our site with our current strategic vision
  • Maintain our social media accounts, including content creation, monitoring for timeliness and accuracy, and updating as needed
  • Aid in the RAI Corps recruitment efforts, which includes identifying and attracting new candidates monthly for interviews.
  • Visit universities and attend college job fairs and other events to develop pipelines of potential RAI Corps service members
  • Identify and create opportunities to develop and expand partnerships
  • Represent/promote RAI at community events, conferences, tabling events, etc.
  • Design community outreach campaigns designed to engage people in a year of service
  • Lead the creation of all digital and print marketing material
  • Support the onboarding process of new RAI Corps members
  • Track results of media outreach efforts
  • Support team in dissemination of press releases and coordination of public events as needed
  • Ensure consistency in use of RAI brand and image

What an ideal candidate looks like:

The MOC should be driven and ready to own RAI’s outreach and communications.  We are looking for someone who:

  • has digital marketing experience.
  • is a good storyteller
  • is a people person who can build strong relationships
  • has a collaborative and creative drive
  • has worked with various platforms and software programs
  • is happy to be out meeting people and developing relationships
