Senior Program Manager, Fund for Resilience, Equity and Engagement (FREE)

AIDS United is seeking a Senior Program Manager with demonstrated project administration and public health experience to manage one of AIDS United’s major grantmaking initiatives – the Fund for Resilience, Equity and Engagement (FREE). Launched in April 2019, FREE is a three-year funding initiative prioritizing groups and organizations led by Black gay, bisexual, queer and same-gender-loving (GBQ/SGL) men and people who are transgender and/or gender non-conforming (TGNC) throughout the United States.
Working in collaboration with the Director of Grantmaking, this position is strategic and tactical, and responsible for maintaining and advancing the vision for the FREE Initiative, by leading the organization’s efforts to establish a sustainable and effective grantmaking initiative reflective of communities most affected by HIV.
The Senior Program Manager must have demonstrated experience with grants management, facilitating technical and capacity building assistance for community-based public health organizations and managing a large and complex initiative with a major funder and multiple stakeholders. This individual must be a self-motivated, critical thinker with keen attention to detail. The position requires strong writing, communications and negotiation abilities. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, remote environment, with the demonstrated ability to work independently and work as a member of a team, and the ability to manage a team of remote staff.
Successful candidates will understand the balance and challenges between national program management and local community implementation and will have significant history leading or working with community-based organizations in the HIV field in one or more of the areas of focus highlighted above.
This is a full-time position with an anticipated start date of July 15, 2020
This position is responsible for short- and long-term project planning, including developing annual project and budget plans, and monitoring costs throughout the fiscal year to ensure an appropriate allocation of funds and resources. Other responsibilities include:
Work with the Director of Grantmaking to promote and advance the work of AIDS United in the identified communities and cultivate the funder relationship
Manage, assess and align the staffing structure of the FREE team
Serve as the lead for defining, designing and executing the annual performance goals of the initiative
Refine and direct the plan and process for submission and review of funding proposals for the initiative
Manage pre and post award grants administration activities; including issuing notices of award and grant agreements
Coordinate and manage the FREE grant portfolio, including, but not limited to monitoring grantee performance, and developing resources to support and assist grantees
Develop outreach strategies, cultivate partnerships, and execute visibility opportunities for the portfolio, including the creation of tools and products related to the portfolio, the submissions of conference abstracts, and public speaking engagements regarding the initiative
Perform cohort evaluation, track deliverables, and monitor progress
Site visit planning and coordination, and implementation of internal and external technical assistance, evaluations, and grantee meetings
In collaboration with AU program management team, executive leadership, and the Director of Grantmaking, maintain effective communication with program funder(s), including submission of timely grant applications, reports, and ongoing updates about the progress of the initiative
Coordinate with AIDS United’s policy department to mobilize community members and community-based organizations in the regions where grantees are located;
Research and share innovative strategies related to prevention services, care, and treatment and
Must reside in the United States;
Masters’ degree preferred, or a Bachelors’ degree with a minimum of four years of related work experience can be substituted. This should include no less than four years of program and/or grants management experience with programs that reach and engage people living with and affected by HIV, with a specific focus on knowledge of other social justice movements that intersect with HIV;
Experience with grants management including meeting deliverables, establishing and monitoring work plan objectives, and oversight of subcontracts and ability to manage webinar and/or multimedia platforms supportive of learning communities;
Must have demonstrated experience in community engagement with Black gay, bisexual, queer, and same-gender loving men (GBQ/SGL) and/or people who are transgender and/or gender non-conforming (TGNC);
Experience with collaboration, communication, engagement, and networking with organizations, leaders, and communities/peers who are Black GBQ/SGL men and/or TGNC;
Outstanding written and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly with people at all levels;
Detail-oriented with exceptional project and time management skills;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel;
Experienced with Salesforce CRM preferred, but not required;
Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
Leads a team of two Program Managers and one Program Assistant
Work is generally performed within the office environment or equivalent remote space; includes significant email, videoconferencing and phone contact with staff and with stakeholders and constituents. We are committed to an inclusive, transparent, and collaborative culture.
