Remote Bilingual Domestic Violence Counselor

Lutheran Settlement House | Empowering Children, Adults, Families, and Communities Since 1902Under the supervision of the Counseling Supervisor, the Counselor/Advocate is primarily responsible for providing individual and group counseling and advocacy services for domestic violence victims and their families. Due to COVID-19, all tasks are remote at this time and will remain so through the duration of the short grant period. Therefore, candidates can be physically located anywhere.

Functions and Duties:

  • Provides individual counseling, case management, advocacy, accompaniment and referral services to domestic violence victims and their families
  • Provides quality client services and maintains client record accurately in accordance with agency standards
  • Facilitates or co-facilitates group counseling for domestic violence victims and their families
  • Maintains up-dated information regarding procedures for obtaining and enforcing protection from abuse court orders. Remains current with local, state and federal laws that impact services to domestic violence victims and their families
  • Maintains up-dated and accurate resource and referral system on domestic violence, drug and alcohol, AIDS/HIV, and other related issues
  • Advocates with institutions, agencies, or government systems on behalf of domestic violence victims and their families
  • Participates in the development and presentation of workshops on domestic violence issues to the larger community, especially in the Latinx community
  • Facilitates life skills groups and group counseling for domestic violence victims in community settings
  • Provides scheduled hotline coverage
  • Participates in team/staff meetings, in-service and volunteer trainings, and other LSH/BDVP functions as may be required
  • Meets regularly with supervisor to review program activity, services issues, and other program matters. This includes a routine review of service documentation and other program information to assure compliance with program standards and agency service goals
  • Other duties as assigned


    ·      Bilingual in English and Spanish is required. Bilingual/bi-cultural candidates will be prioritized.

    ·      Due to the short grant period, applicant should have already completed the 40-hour DV Advocate Training in any state.

    ·      Experience (formal or informal) working with survivors of domestic violence or trauma is helpful.
