Philanthropy 101 - New to the Game

  • March 25, 2021
  • 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Virtual

The nonprofit and philanthropic sector can be confusing, especially for an individual starting out in the field!  From private foundations, to corporations, and public charities, it can be overwhelming to understand where and how to start.

Philanthropy Delaware, in partnership with Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement (DANA), hosts this workshop to provide foundational knowledge and background context to understanding philanthropy. The intended outcome is for nonprofits to enhance their understanding of philanthropy and how it fits in the landscape of the social sector.

The program will provide information for the following questions:

  • What is philanthropy and why does it exist?
  • How does it work?
  • What are the key philanthropic definitions and terms to know?
  • What are the different types of foundations and how are they different?
  • What are the current philanthropic trends in Delaware?

What is the benefit of this program?

  • Organizations will be able to navigate the philanthropic sector
  • Recognize and realize funding opportunities across all categories of philanthropy

Who is the program for?

This program is designed for the following:

  • Emerging and new nonprofit Development Directors and Executive Directors
  • Those who have joined the nonprofit sector within two years or less, or may have never received a grant before
  • Those interested in a refresher
