NoVo Foundation Accepting LOIs for Proposals That Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Women and Girls

  • April 19, 2019

The NoVo Foundation is dedicated to catalyzing a transformation in global society from a culture of domination and exploitation to one of equality and partnership. Through its Life Story: Moments of Change initiative, the foundation seeks to illuminate the truths of girls and women in the sex trade — the vast majority of whom enter the trade due to a dearth of economic options and a failure of social systems to support them.

A year after it launched the initiative, the foundation has decided to deepen its support for organizations working to change those life trajectories. Through its Life Story Grants program, the foundation seeks to impact commercial sexual exploitation by addressing two influences: the people and communities who are disproportionately impacted by the sex trade but are largely invisible; and the critical life moments where a different path becomes possible.

To that end, grants of up to $600,000 a year for up to three years will be awarded in support of U.S.-based projects or approaches that imagine and create new possibilities and an exit for girls and women in sexual exploitation. Examples of approaches and programs eligible for support include a pilot program within a system to address the needs of survivors; dedicated capacity to address a particular system or agency’s response to survivors of commercial sexual exploitation; or collaborations between systems and community-based providers to develop specialized responses. New collaborations, existing work, and new ideas from existing organizations all will be supported.
